What we are doing:

In what spare time we have, we decided to spend it (and our savings) on remodeling our rowhouse in South Philly. When we purchased our casa it was a 3 story, 5 bedroom, 1 bath that hadn't been touched in 50+ years. It's currently a 4 bed, 2 bath construction site with so much more to do it's hard to believe.

We use this blog to mark progress, say hi to friends and family, rant about the process of remodeling, and try to have some fun along the way.

...And Then There Were None!

So after many weekends of sledgehammers, pry bars, contractor bags (roughly 200 so far), and dirt, we finally finished the demo for the 3rd floor! It's hard to understand sometimes how much dirt and dust a house can hold in it's walls after 100 years. I mean it's astounding.

We haven't quite finished taking all the bags of debris down to the living room, but all the walls, framing, and ceiling supports are gone. It is a momentous day for us to have all the walls down and finally see the space as one big room. I think Bryan would like to keep the whole floor open as one room, but that would eliminate the bathroom. (it's Bryan...I'm thinking a bar, pool table, plasma and two couches. PLEASE help me make this happen with the boss!!!)

I however do hold onto the idea of the vaulted ceiling bedroom with wonderful evening sunlight, and the spa like bathroom, with claw foot soaking tub, and one of those book holder things that goes across the tub......

somehow we have to compromise, or at least find room somewhere for the plasma TV!

We're very impressed, especially since I (Joe couldn't take the dust!) spent the weekend cleaning out 20 years worth of dust and junk in our basement. Can't imagine 100 years of dust and dirt! (PS - I vote for the spa tub, Joe goes for the plasma so we're no help here.) Love - Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Joe

I thought about arm wrestling for the tub vs. the TV, but thought that might be an unfair advantage for Bryan. We tend to use rock, paper, scissors on a regular basis as well! Thanks for the encouragement along the way, we try to add new pictures as soon as we get something done!
